Stelz’s landscape paintings capture idyllic sunsets, reflections and atmospheric effects which echoes the Tonalist and Impressionist movements of the late 19th century.
Inspired by the late 19th century American Tonalist and Impressionist movements, Stelz’s work reflects and reawakens one of the most significant styles in American’s fine art history. His landscape scenes and floral renderings, composed entirely of colored glasses as his medium, further aids in Stelz’s attempts to create rich and vibrant coloration, extraordinary depth and luminescent qualities, which transcends the scope of traditional paints and pigments.
CREATION
Stelz’s goal is to capture a view and more importantly, the mood of his surroundings in his glass paintings by painting with “colored light”, a term he has coined to describe his stained glass work and his signature technique of painting with glass pigments. This light, which emanates from his paintings, draws the viewer into his subject. His fascination with light and the manipulation of it through his creation of stained glass windows, and through his unique glass painting technique, allows Stelz to create extraordinary paintings in glass, to be enjoyed today and by future generations.
